The Paradox of the Mirror" is an interdisciplinary work combining dance, video, and
pictorial art to
explore the relationship between time, identity, and memory. The work draws inspiration from
Cuban
artist Guillermo López González's depiction of the mangrove and its diverse forms.
The mangrove, with its constantly moving vegetation, becomes a metaphor for identity and
memory.
The mangrove's roots symbolize cultural heritage and connection to the past, while its
growth and
movement suggest evolution and change. The work explores the idea of the paradox of the
mirror,
where the reality present and reality subjective reflect each other and become distorted.
This is
achieved through the projection of images of dancers interacting with the artist's
paintings, creating a
time loop that questions the linearity of time.
Premier at Squeaky Wheel Fringe Festival on June 5-6. FSU Cook Theater
